The Big Four-Oh

Welp, another year passed.
This one was quieter than most, especially on the writing front. Continued editing efforts and a new project’s unexpected expansion put a constriction on how much I was able to get done. I look back on last year’s birthday resolutions and, lo and behold, I fell short on most of my goals.
That doesn’t make the last year a failure, however. Changes—big and small—abound, including some rather important ones as I close out my 30’s. And I’m excited for them; for a long time, the idea of change was terrifying. The ones coming up in the next three, six, and twelve months aren’t so bad. More on that as they happen.
Looking forward to my 40’s, there are personal and professional goals I want to achieve, chief among them is the transition to a full-time writing career. It’s not a stretch to say I’m not quite ready for that yet; my routine is inconsistent, and the confidence I would need to have in my stuff isn’t there yet. By my 45th birthday, I want that to have changed.
I can’t complain about the last 39 years. My life hasn’t been terrible to this point. I’m healthy, I’ve been surrounded by good, supportive people, have a career that I don’t hate, and it allows me to pursue my passion. The word for this is gratitude, and I can only look forward to the next 40 years.
