Work in Progress #18: Progress Report, March 2024

Yo, yo, yo!  How y’all been?

The shortest month of the year has come and gone, and hopefully it’s been a good one for you.  Spring is fast approaching, and with it comes more daylight, Spring cleaning, and the promise of warmer weather.  Oh, and baseball; this year’s Yankee team is one of the deepest in years, and I’m looking forward to the season starting up at the end of this month.  New York vs. Everybody, baby!

All that aside, Spring tends to be a time of renewal.  We come out of our collective hibernation and reengage with a world that was too frozen (or damp, if you live in the Northwest) to connect with for the last few months.  The sun stays out past 6:00 PM, and that after-work beer doesn’t seem like it ends so late.  The late afternoon run feels less like just running in the dark.  People are just generally happier in the Spring.  I know I am.

And with that, here’s what’s going on this month:

-       Underground Rhapsody is still coming along, slowly but surely.  I’ve started to go back and read the stuff I have, cleaning it up somewhat, and keeping my head with the characters and world I set up.  I’m still excited about this project, and I’m hoping to have a first draft completed soon.

-       I finished a readthrough of another WIP, Empire Towers, recently.  It’s something I still like and that I’m still excited about, so that’s a bonus.  The first round of editing begins next month, so I’m going to probably read it a couple more times and take notes.

-       I’ve got a couple short stories in the works, so more on that as they develop.  I’ve also got a slew of book reviews to post as well, so we’re going to be busy over here!  March is going to be a big month!

February was a little weird for me.  I had a bunch of posts planned out, themed around Black History Month, but as I got into writing them, I realized that Black History Month in America occupies a very complicated space in my head, and I felt like that prevented me from writing a bunch of the stuff I thought about.  I’ll talk about that part later, but for now, I wanted to explain why I was missing in action a bit.  March is here, though, and it’s full steam ahead!  I’ll be putting up book reviews and my thoughts about life and writing and everything in between.  Come join me, hope to see you soon!
