Progress Report: October 2022

Ah, it’s my favorite time of year.

October brings to mind the changing colors of foliage, temperatures gradually dialing themselves down, apple harvests, long sleeves, and sitting by the fireplace. Baseball season races toward its climactic finish, basketball season is just getting ready to start, and by now we’ve seen enough football to know if our teams are going to be good this year or not. The excitement swells in coffee shops everywhere as they try to convince us that pumpkin pie is a caffeinated drink as opposed to a Thanksgiving dessert.

You can probably tell I’m a Fall baby.

It also seems like my creative energy starts to rise as the temperatures drop. Am I alone in this? Feel free to comment.

Anyway, here’s what’s on the horizon in this neck of the woods.

- It’s NaNoWriMo prep season, and now is the perfect time to say that I’m participating in this year's event. I've got a solid idea in mind and I'm putting together a framework as we speak. If you’re in the Kent/Des Moines/Renton/Burien area and need a writing buddy, let a brother know. I have every intention of camping out in the library on Saturdays in November.

- I’m also working through my first draft of Underground Rhapsody. I started this project in the early days of the pandemic, and after many stops and starts, I’m finally writing the third act! I’ll keep you posted on that front.

- I’m starting edits on Urban Legend this month. Yep, I’m going to be busy clearing out some of my to-do list before November 1 so I can focus on NaNo. Anyway, provided I get through half of the story by the end of the month, I’ll be looking to post some early sample chapters.

- I’ve also been reading a ton, and I’ve got plenty of reviews to share.

- Baseball playoffs start next week. Hopefully, after an historic year for Aaron Judge (seriously, the dude is having possibly the best contract year in pro sports history), the Yankees might cap it off with that elusive 28th World Series championship, and a long overdue parade down the Canyon of Heroes. Conversely, the Knicks are looking to rebound from a disappointing season. All season last year, critics were loudly and proudly calling their 2020-21 playoff berth a fluke and gleefully celebrating the team’s demise. It’s on this year’s squad to silence them. It’s put-up-or-shut-up time.

Anyway, I hope everyone is well and that you’re all enjoying your Halloween themed books, movies, and games. Enjoy your PSL and stay spooky, my friends!

Cheers!
